"SHOUT OUTS"
With the end of another athletic season upon us I felt it would be appropriate to do what I haven't done much of since football season.......distribute some much deserved "Shout Outs"!
**When a school wins the MPSA All Sports Award in their classification you know they work hard with regards to development and discipline. Here's a big Da Man "Shout Out" to Brookhaven Academy for winning the prestigious award.
**Here's a "Shout Out" for a track and field dynasty...the Silliman Lady Wildcats captured their 7th straight AA State Championship recently under the direction of Sharon Kline.
**Nine young men from AA South baseball teams were selected to the MPSA All-Star Team. Central Private's Gage Wilkinson, Thomas Bourgeois and Brennon Courville....Copiah's Scotty Reese...Brookhaven's Kolby Byrd...Simpson's Lee Mashburn and Steven Capistran...Adams Christian's Ryan Comer and Centreville's Kyle Brown. A "Shout Out" to these outstanding baseball players!
**How about the Prentiss Christian Saints for winning the AA State Golf Championship edging out River Oaks by two strokes. A Da Man "Shout Out" to Lee Dungan, Hunter McPhail, Hagan McPhail, Matthew Speights, Logan Parish, Keaton Stamps, Ethan Lee and Zane Foshee.
**The Lady Cougars of Simpson Academy earn a big "Shout Out" for capturing the AA State Championship in Cross Country.
**Here's a big "Shout Out" for the Lady Rebels of Amite School Center who brought home the AA-AAA Championship trophy in slow pitch softball.
**"Shout Out" to both the Boys and Girls Tennis teams at Brookhaven for winning AA State Titles!
**The Columbia Cougars added some hardware to their trophy case this year by winning the AA State title in Cross Country.....here's a "Shout Out" for CA!
**Yet another championship banner to be displayed over the basketball court at Brookhaven. The Cougars won their fifth straight AA State Championship. A Da Man "Shout Out" sent up north to Brookhaven.
**The Centreville Tigers get one more "Shout Out" for winning their second consecutive AA State football title.

AA Baseball State Championship

Copiah County Courier
The mighty Copiah Colonels, 29-3, plated 6 runs against the Lee Colts in the bottom of the first inning of the opening game of the State AA championship series in Gallman on Tuesday night and never looked back. The Colonels defeated the Colts 15-0 in five innings, as Colonel pitcher Scotty Reese picked up another win and another shutout.
Reese allowed only 4 hits during the short contest.
In addition to their explosion in the first inning off Colt pitcher Tony Antici, the Colonels scored 1 in the second, five in the third and 3 in the fourth. Russ Singleton had a 2-run homerun to right center in the third inning. Mitch Little and Bryce Guess had two singles apiece to pace the Colonel attack against four Colt pitchers.
Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Clarksdale. Because of a period of heavy rainfall lately, the game could be moved to Cleveland, MS. A decision will be made by the end of the day on Wednesday or early Thursday morning.
