Prairie View got out to an early 4-2 lead on two baskets from Conner Smith. Glenbrook’s Thomas Beam hit a 3-pointer from the wing with 3:24 to go in the opening quarter to put the Apache’s up 5-4 but the Spartans answered as Robby Jones hit a turnaround jumper from ten feet to reclaim a 6-5 advantage for Prairie View. Colton Spurlock finished the quarter with two baskets in the final 53 seconds to give Glenbrook a 9-6 lead after one quarter of play.

Glenbrook started the second quarter with a 7-2 run to extend the lead to 16-8 with 4:20 remaining in the half but Prairie View kept climbing back as the Spartans pulled to within three points at 18-15 on a Chase Anderson drive with 1:33 left. Glenbrook would get a free throw from DeAngelo McDonald but Prairie View ended the half with baskets from Dylan Tarver and Anderson to knot the game at 19-19.
Colton Spurlock started the third quarter with a 3-pointer from the wing against the Spartan man-to-man defense to put Glenbrook up 22-19 but at the 5:22 mark Robby Jones hit a 3-pointer of his own to tie the game at 24-24. Glenbrook then went on a 9-0 run as four different Apaches scored to increase the lead to 33-24 with just under five minutes left in the quarter. Glenbrook’s Matt Moorehead hit a jumper from the elbow and converted on a Prairie View turnover with 27 seconds remaining to end the quarter and Glenbrook enjoying a 39-29 lead.
Glenbrook took their biggest lead at 43-29 on a Colton Spurlock assist to DeAngelo McDonald at the 6:53 mark of the final quarter. The Spartans could get no closer than ten points until midway through the quarter when a Chase Anderson steal and bucket trimmed the deficit to 44-36 with 4:48 left. The Glenbrook lead was cut to five points at 46-41 following another Anderson steal and basket with 2:48 remaining in the game but a Spurlock baseline drive basket plus one quickly pushed the lead back to nine points at 49-41. Following a Prairie View turnover Spurlock sealed the win with a drive and finger-roll basket that put the Apaches up 51-41 with under two minutes to play.
“We made some adjustments at the half,” said Glenbrook head coach Chris Kourvelas. “We got some zone looks from Prairie View in the second half and were able to capitalize on some turnovers. Senior Colton Spurlock led the Apaches, the southpaw had a game high 25 points, Thomas Beam added 9, Matt Moorehead 7 and DeAngelo McDonald and Zach Specht had 5 apiece.
Prairie View fell to 12-8 on the season. Robby Jones led the Spartans with 16 points, Chase Anderson had 10, Conner Smith 9 and Dylan Tarver 5.
Next up for Glenbrook is a district opener at River Oaks on Friday while Prairie View opens their district play as they host Cenla also on Friday.
