On January 23, 2010, a milestone was achieved at Copiah Academy when Brookhaven coach Barry Gray chalked up his 700th high school girls win of his career. As a Brookhaven senior, Barry helped lead the Cougars to the school's first state championship. After graduating from Brookhaven Academy and the University of Mississippi, Barry began his coaching career at Hillcrest Christian School then moved on to coach girls at Winston Academy, coached boys at Indianola Academy, and coached girls and boys at Kirk Academy before returning to his alma-mater where he has spent the last 15 years helping put the Lady Cougars on the map by repeatedly capturing championships. His coaching career in the MAIS basketball association is 702 wins with only 150 losses. At Brookhaven alone he has captured 6 state titles and 1 Overall title leading the Lady Cougars to their only undefeated season in the school's history at 43-0. His overall high school career in boys and girls is 801 wins and only 201 losses. Included in those wins are:
*20 District Championships
*10 North and South State Championships
*6 State Championships
*Perfect undefeated season in 2004.
He has also had the privilege of coaching the MAIS All star game on 6 occasions. If ask about his coaching career you wouldn’t hear him quote the numbers or the championships achieved, he would say what a humbling experience and a blessing from the Lord it has been to have the opportunity to lead young athletes in their journey toward the REAL victory in life, their relationship with Jesus Christ.
His current girls squad at Brookhaven is the top ranked team in AA with a 22-3 record.
