Adams advances in 5-AA tourney

Adams Christian edged Centreville 46-40 last night in the semi-finals of the District 5-AA Tournament at Silliman. Marlee Wadsworth and Taylor Welch combined for 30 points as the Lady Rebels advanced to the title game against Silliman to be played this evening at 5:30 pm. Adams improves to 19-8 on the season while Centreville falls to 5-17.
Centreville sophomore Katie Berry scored nine points in a first quarter that produced four lead changes and two ties. The Lady Tigers finished the opening quarter with a 12-10 lead on a Berry 3-pointer from the top of the key.

Centreville expanded their lead to 15-10 at the 4:30 mark of the second quarter as Berry nailed her third 3-pointer of the night. With the Lady Tigers maintaining an 18-15 lead just inside of two minutes remaining, Marlee Wadsworth helped Adams finished the half with an 8-1 run to take a 23-19 lead into the locker-room at the break. Wadsworth accounted for six of the eight points in the run.
Wadsworth pushed the Adams lead to 25-19 to start the third quarter and at the 1:46 mark Rachel Holloway’s offensive rebound and put back gave the Lady Rebels their biggest lead at 31-22. Centreville’s Kattie Vine hit a jumper from the elbow with seconds remaining but Adams took a 34-24 lead into the final quarter.
Taylor Welch hit a 10 footer to give Adams a 36-24 lead to start the fourth quarter but Centreville stayed within striking distance and the Lady Tigers closed the gap to six points at 44-38 when Kattie Berry converted on a fast break with 1:47 remaining in the game. Marlee Wadsworth’s lay-in with 21 seconds remaining sealed the 46-40 win for Adams Christian.

said ACCS head coach Melanie Hall.
Marlee Wadsworth lead ninth ranked Adams with 16 points, Taylor Welch added 14, Rachel Holloway 11, Megan Cole 4 and Kristyn Arnold 1.
For Centreville Katie Berry had a game high 23 points, Kattie Vine added 6, Ashton Crum had 5 and Renee Miley, Harley McKey and Amanda Engels had 2 apiece.
Centreville will take on Central Private in the elimination game at 3:00 pm today.
