Columbia pulls away in final quarter for win

Columbia withstood a late third quarter Centreville rally to take a 60-40 first round win in the South AA Tournament at Brookhaven yesterday. The Lady Cougars improved to 17-12 and will take on #1 seed Prairie View Wednesday at 6:30 pm.
Columbia went on top 30-15 to open the third quarter when Ashton Scarborough hit a basket but Centreville started to whittle away at the Lady Cougar lead. Tori Rouse nailed a 17 foot jumper to start a 7-2 Centreville run that ultimately closed the gap to 41-35 to end the third quarter.

Centreville pulled to within four points at 41-37 when Ashton Crum converted in the paint to start the final quarter but Columbia all but closed the door as the Lady Cougars outscored Centreville 19-3 the final 7:00 of the game.
Ashton Scarborough had a game high 24 points to lead Columbia, Hannah Martin chipped in with 14, Lauren Williamson had 10 and Sissy Price 8.
Katie Berry led Centreville with 17 points, Harley McKey had 8, Tori Rouse 6, Renee Miley 4, Kattie Vine 3 and Ashton Crum 2. Centreville ends the season with a 6-18 mark.
