Central Hinds home opener ends in win
For Southern Sports & Travel, By Greg Biggs
Greenville Christian came to Raymond looking for a road win on the legs and arm of their Senior Quarterback Justin Leavey. The Saints won the toss and elected to get the ball first. Central Hinds Junior kicker Pate Demuth sailed the ball into the endzone and GC started at their own 20. Leavey led the Saints down the field and they were finally stopped at the Cougar 10 yard line. Senior kicker Hunter Burford missed a 27 yard field goal badly to the left and that seemed to be an omen of things to come. The Cougars then took over and marched down the field behind Junior Quarteback Jordan Currie and Senior running back Hunter Farrior. The Cougars were stopped as well at the Saints 10 yard line but the differnce here was all MAIS kicker Pate Demuth as he knocked home his own 27 yard field goal. GC was not to be detured as they took the kickoff that again was put in the endzone by Demuth and ran and passed to a touchdown putting the Saints briefly in front. Lavey completed a 28 yard pass to Senior tyler Findley for the go ahead score. But that was really "all she wrote" for the Saints as the Cougars took over from there. Central Hinds quickly recovered and score on a 19 yard run by Senior Hunter Farrior and the on their next possession Junior Jordan Currie scored on a 8 yard run to end the 1st Quarter Central Hinds 17 and Greenville Christian 7.
The 2nd Quarter was all Cougars as Currie broke open the game with a 53 yard touchdown run and 2 more touchdown passes to Senior Cody Parkman of 13 yards and Senior Kyle McNair of 28 yards. Sandwicked in there was a great run by the Saint's QB Leavey on a 81 yard run. Halftime Central Hinds 37 and Greenville Christian 14.
Central Hinds got the ball first in the second half and proceeded to run down the field until QB Currie found running back Lee Douglas for a 22 yard touchdown. This was the "last verse written" and the Cougars dominated the last half and brought home the win. Final Central Hinds 44 and Greenville Christian 14
