Second half surge propels Oak Forest

The 5th ranked Oak Forest Yellow Jackets scored 21 second half points to overcame a first half deficit and take a critical 28-21 District 2-AAA divisional win on the road against East Rankin Friday night. The Jackets have reeled off three straight wins since a week five home loss to Presbyterian and sit atop District 2-AAA with a 2-1 mark and 6-2 overall record.
Oak Forest struck first on Friday night in Pelahatchie when Alex Rimes ran in from one yard out at the 4:10 mark of the first quarter but East Rankin answered with two second quarter touchdowns from Josh Stuart and Jacob Weldon.
Blake Carter’s one yard run halfway through the third quarter tied the game at 14-14 and less than three minutes later the Jackets took the lead at 21-14 when Blake Carter nailed wide-out Drew Misita with an 11 yard touchdown pass with 1:20 remaining in the quarter.
East Rankin struck quickly in the fourth quarter when Jacob Weldon connected with Colby Crotwell for a 74 yard touchdown pass with 11:47 remaining in the game to knot things up at 21-21.
Oak Forest tailback James Peterson broke the 21-21 tie with 3:52 remaining in the game as the senior scored on a 6 yard run. Peterson spent much of the first half of the season with an injured shoulder.
Alex Rimes led the Oak Forest running game as the senior tailback rushed for 115 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. Peterson chipped in with 55 yards on 9 carries and a score.
Drew Misita had 4 receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown and Blake Carter went 5/12 for 115 yards passing and a touchdown.
Josh Stuart led East Rankin with 78 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.
Next up for Oak Forest is a road trip to Madison this Friday night to battle the 4-3 MRA Patriots.
East Rankin falls to 2-6 & 0-3 and will host Brookhaven.
