Canton Academy tailback Lafayette Wales is the Week Nine Gateway Tire & Service Center Player of the Week.
The 5'10", 180 lb. senior rushed for 238 yards on 24 carries and scored 5 touchdowns in leading eighth ranked Canton to a 49-14 win over Oak Hill.
"Lafayette Wales is not only our team leader in rushing and scoring but is also one of our top leaders with respect to providing inspiration to the rest of the team," said Canton head coach Ron Jurney. "Lafayette has excellent speed and moves but gets many of his yards as a result of running over and through defensive players. His determination in our game against Oak Hill was evident from the very beginning as he rushed for 238 yards and scored 5 rushing touchdowns."
In his performance on Friday night Wales eclipsed the 1,000 yard rushing mark and now stands at 1,152 yards on the season to go along with 14 touchdowns.
Wales averages 128 yards a game and just shy of 9 yards per carry.
The senior tailback will lead 6-3 Canton this Friday night when the Panthers travel to Louisville to battle Winston in a District 2-AA matchup to wrap up the 2013 regular season.
