Simpson Academy tailback Daniel Taylor in the Week Eleven Gateway Tire & Service Center Player of the Week.
The 5'11", 200 lb. senior rushed for 230 yards on 16 carries and 3 touchdowns and had 4 tackles and a sack on defense in leading Class AA second ranked Simpson to a 38-14 round one playoff win over defending state champion Brookhaven this past Friday night.
"Daniel is a guy who just enjoys playing the game of football," said Simpson head coach Winston Mullins. "He is a warrior and a guy who is a 100 percent team player. He enjoys getting to score touchdowns but he really wants Simpson to win and his teammates to excel. If you ask him he would give a lot of credit to his offensive line. He represents what our team is all about, nose to the ground grinding all the time."
Taylor, who rushed for 1,155 yards as a junior last season, is the fifth leading rusher in the MAIS this season with 1,526 yards to go along with 15 touchdowns and will lead the 10-1 Cougars into round two of the playoffs against seventh ranked Lee this Friday night in Mendenhall.
