Russell
Christian Academy won the 2012 MAIS 8-Man state championship with a perfect
13-0 record. Included was a 29-28 win over Calhoun in the title game to claim
the school’s first ever state championship in football.
In
the months following Russell Christian self-reported to the MAIS that it had
used two ineligible players during the season.
The
MAIS has asked the school to return the state championship trophy and as a
result the 2012 8-Man championship will be vacated.
Other
sanctions imposed by the MAIS included:
1)
Returning all playoff income received during the football playoff series
2)
$300 fine for each of the ineligible players used during the season
3)
$200 fine for failure to enter players on the online eligibility list
Calhoun
Academy filed an appeal asking that they be awarded the state championship but their
request was denied by the MAIS Athletic and Activities Commission.
Russell
Christian is no longer a member of the MAIS and has joined the AISA (Alabama
Independent School Association).
