game ends in brawl, MAIS hands down sanctions

A
brawl that took place between Newton County Academy and Deer Creek School
immediately following the closing seconds of the round one playoff game on
Friday night has resulted in both schools being placed on probation.
The
brawl reportedly included members of each coaching staff and players from both
teams.
The
MAIS has placed Deer Creek on probation for a period of two years and fined
$1,500. The probation will end on November 1, 2015.
Additionally,
the Deer Creek boy’s athletic programs are suspended from all post season play
for the remainder of the 2013/14 school year.
Deer
Creek assistant coach Lee McIntire is placed on probation for a period of one
year, fined $750.00 and suspended from coaching for sixty days.
One
Deer Creek player is suspended from participating in athletics for the
remainder of the 2013/14 school year.
Newton
Academy was placed on probation for a period of one year and fined $1,000 with
the probation ending on November 1, 2014.
Coach
Robert Roberts is placed on probation for one year and fined $250.
Also,
assistant coach Rob Roberts is placed on probation for one year, fined $500 and
suspended from coaching for 60 days.
The
game was played at Newton Academy.
