Receiving double figures scoring from four starters, Prairie View throttled Cenla Christian 69-20 Friday night at Spartan Gym to open MAIS District 6-2A play.
Prairie View settled the issue early by outscoring the Lady Lions 33-9 in the opening quarter.
“We played good defense tonight,” Prairie View coach Dave Farrell said. “We really got after them early.”
Steadily adding to the lead, the Lady Spartans were up 47-14 at intermission and 62-16 after three frames.
As usual, Caroline Oliphant had a stellar game for the Lady Spartans. Shooting 8-of-13 (4-of-6 from 2-point range and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc), the 5-4 senior point guard totaled 23 points with eight steals and five assists.
Sophomore forward Molly Gregory went double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
“Molly Gregory had a game,” Farrell said. “She was all over the boards. She was very active.”
Logan Tubbs, who shot 3-for-3 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the line, and Jerri Ann Lord added 10 points apiece as the Lady Spartans (15-4, 1-0) won their third straight.
Katie Dobernig paced the Lady Lions (6-5, 0-1) with seven points.
Robby Jones and Connor Smith teamed up for 35 points as Prairie View took care of Cenla Christian 60-47 Friday night at Spartan Gym in the MAIS District 6-2A opener for both schools.

Boys game..........
Leading from wire-to-wire, the Spartans raced to a 15-2 first quarter lead en route to snapping a three-game losing streak.
“Our guys played well, especially defensively,” Prairie View coach Billy Pee said. “We controlled the ball a little better than we had been.”
Prairie View maintained a 13-point edge (27-14) at halftime and bumped the margin to 42-24 at the end of three.
Cenla outscored the Spartans 23-18 in the fourth quarter, but the outcome was never in doubt.
“In the fourth quarter, we didn’t handle the situation real well,” Pee said. “But all-in-all, I thought our kids did a good job.”
Jones topped the Spartans’ page on the scorebook with 18 points and Smith furnished 17. For the Lions, David Ober had 15 points and Dan Green 14.
Prairie View (13-8, 1-0) visits Glenbrook on Tuesday, before returning to the home confines of Spartan Gym for a Friday date with River Oaks.
