Kirk rolls past Carroll

The third ranked Kirk Raiderettes advanced to the semi-finals of the North AA State Tournament with a 44-19 pounding of Carroll yesterday afternoon at Leake Academy in Madden. Kirk improved to 29-2 and will take on top ranked Leake tomorrow at 2:15 weather permitting.
Kirk overcame a slow first quarter and outscored Carroll 12-5 in the second to take a 16-9 lead into the half.

The Raiderettes struggled for the first half of the third quarter and an Ashley Barry 3-pointer from the top of the key pulled Carroll to within six points at 18-12 just two minutes in. Following a Carroll turnover Beth Mann converted on a basket plus one and then went glass on Kirk’s next possession to increase the Raiderette lead to 26-14 with 2:41 left in the quarter. Allye Lundy hit two free throws and Beth Mann’s offensive rebound and put back with 1:12 left pushed the lead to 30-14. Courtney Parella’s lay-in with 44 seconds left in the third quarter put Kirk on top 32-14 and completed a 13-0 run to end the quarter.
Kirk held Carroll to five points in the fourth quarter as they rolled to a 44-19 win to advance to the semi-finals.

Beth Mann led Kirk with 11 points, Courtney Parella added 10, Audra Woods 6, Allye Lundy 4, Holly Wells 3, Kelsey Marter, Emily Lundy, Marah Evans and Carmen Woods each had 2 and Jordan Rutland and Karlyn Grubb 1 apiece.
For Carroll Memrie Corley had 15 points, Kacy Beavers 10, Peyton Clanton 5, Mayme Young and Haley Liddell 4 each and Skylar Alford 2.
Carroll ends their season with a 13-15 mark.
