Apaches split doubleheader with Mustangs

The Glenbrook Apaches traveled to Monroe Thursday for a district doubleheader with the River Oaks Mustangs. Glenbrook lost the first game, 12-6, but rallied back in game two for a 21-11 win. “I thought the guys did a good job of coming back and winning the second game after losing the first one,” Glenbrook head coach Jonathan Hardy said. “It was a big game for us, because it won the series with River Oaks.” In game one, River Oaks jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings, as the Apaches committed five errors. The Apaches fought back to close the deficit to 8-4, but the Mustangs went on to win 12-6. Glenbrook starter Chandler Singleton went the first three innings and took the loss. Singleton gave up five hits and struck out one. Rudi Spurlock relieved Singleton and pitched the next two innings, giving up one hit. Dewy Kendrick pitched the final inning, striking out three. Preston Wise homered to lead the Glenbrook offense, and Dave Parks doubled and singled and drove in two runs. Kendrick had three hits and an RBI, and Cody Boyd had two singles. Conner Clark added a base hit.
River Oaks jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead in game two, but the Apaches scored 21 runs in the next five innings to take the 21-11 win. Boyd got the win for the Apaches as he went the first 4 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and four walks, while striking out four. Rudi Spurlock pitched 1 1/3 innings of no-hit relief to close out the game. Rudi Spurlock shined at the plate in game two, as he went five-for-five with three RBIs. Singleton had two singles, a double and four RBIs, and Kendrick and Levi Reagan both had two base hits and a RBI. Colton Spurlock had a pair of singles and Parks had a single and three RBIs. Wise singled and drove in two runs, and Blake Branch had a RBI-double. Boyd also had a run batted in. The doubleheader split moved the Apaches record to 15-3.
