Simpson head basketball coach James Crain reached the 800 win mark last Thursday night in a 47-43 victory over Porter's Chapel. Crain is in his 31st year and is among only three active high school coaches in Mississippi with 800 wins.
Over his 31 years Crain has won five state championships and averaged 26 wins per season.
Coach Crain has guided this season's Simpson squad to a 23-6 record and #4 ranking in Class AA boys basketball. Simpson finished the regular season in the top spot of District 4AA with a 7-1 mark.
Crain is in his second season at Simpson and led the Cougars to the 2011 Class AA State Championship game where they fell to Marshall.
