Gateway Tire & Service Center Player of the Week
Deer Creek tailback Tanner Bennett is the Gateway Tire & Service Center Player of the week. The 6' 242 lb. senior rushed for 166 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown and had 5 receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown in the Warrior's 34-20 upset win at home over then second ranked DeSoto before a large Homecoming crowd.
Bennett has rushed for 985 yards on the season and was instrumental in leading Class A fourth ranked Deer Creek to their first win over DeSoto since 2003 but more importantly the District 1-A Championship on Friday night.
"Tanner demonstrates his leadership not only physically but spiritually as well," said first year Deer Creek head coach Murry Rhodes. "Three summers at FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) camp of learning to be a leader for FCA here on campus has prepared him to be a leader on the field also. I think there is a strong correlation between both of those characteristics. He showed this Friday night leading by action and words and I'm so proud of him."
Bennett will lead Deer Creek (8-1 & 5-0) as they finish out the regular season this Friday on the road against district foe West Memphis before hosting a round one playoff game against the fourth seed from District 2-A.
