Centreville outlasts Glenbrook 46-38
Southern Sports & Travel
The Centreville Tigers took a step in defending their state championship title Friday night before a home crowd and on a dry field. But to the surprise of many that step nearly turned into a stumble as the Glenbrook Apaches did more than just show up to play the defending state champs, they nearly took a win back to Minden. Centreville jumped out to a 30-14 halftime lead and then scored on their first possession of the third quarter on a Zach Sinclair 67 yard touchdown run to increase the lead to 38-14, but Glenbrook fought back with a vengeance behind the play of senior quarterback Preston Wise. Wise hit sophomore tailback Willy Thompson with an 8 yard touchdown pass and then hit wide-out Chandler Singleton for the two point conversion to bring the Apaches to within 16 points at 38-22. Wise then ran in from one yard out on their next possession and Thompson converted the two point conversion as the third quarter would end with the Centreville lead at 38-30. The momentum had completely swung to Glenbrook and the Centreville crowd grew even more concerned when Preston Wise scored his fifth touchdown of the game with just over five minutes remaining. The one yard plunge was followed by a pass from Wise to Chandler Singleton for the successful two point conversion to tie the game at 38-38.
The game was ultimately decided on a one yard run by senior tailback Zach Sinclair followed by a Sinclair two point conversion run to push the final score to 46-38.

Zach Sinclair proved why he is one of the best backs in all of the MAIS by rushing for 297 yards on 32 carries, six touchdowns and two 2-point conversions.
Senior defensive end Hayden Hatchell and sophomore linebacker Tyler Towles each had 7 tackles to lead the Tigers.
Glenbrook quarterback Preston Wise had big numbers as well. The senior was 23/33 for 314 yards and three touchdowns through the air and rushed for 70 yards and scored twice on the ground.
Centreville improved to 9-3 after posting their fifth straight win and will be at Brookhaven on Friday night to face the #1 ranked Cougars.
Head coach Ryan Porter’s Glenbrook squad finishes the season at 7-4.
