Columbia advances with win over CP

The Columbia Cougars stayed alive with a 68-49 win over Central Private yesterday in a battle of #3 seeds at the South AA Tournament. With the win Columbia moves on to face the Glenbrook Apaches this evening at 5:15 pm.
The Cougars got out of the gate fast yesterday and with 3:49 remaining in the first quarter a Drew Broome assist to Cole Oglesbee gave Columbia a 13-2 lead. Jason Young hit a 3-pointer from the wing for Central Private as the quarter drew to an end with Columbia maintaining a 20-11 advantage.

Central Private stayed within ten points for the first half of the second quarter and cut the deficit to 27-22 on a Jason Young 3-pointer from the corner at the 2:33 mark. Consecutive baskets from Jas Stringer and Christian Robbins pushed the Columbia lead to 31-22 but Lance Wicker drove the lane and went glass at the buzzer to keep Central Private close at 31-24 to end the half.
Columbia came out of the halftime break on fire and at the 2:24 mark of the third quarter extended their lead to 51-26 on a Christian Robbins assist to Drew Broome slashing in from the wing that resulted in a thunderous dunk from the 6’4” senior. Columbia took a 58-32 lead into the final quarter en-route to a 68-49 win.

Drew Broome led Columbia with 14 points, Christian Robbins and Taylor Fortenberry each had 13, Cole Oglesbee added 11, Tanner Pace 9, Jas Stringer 4 and Brandon Bell and Peanut Hill 2 apiece.
Lance Wicker had 14 points to lead Central Private, Kerry Burns added 13, Jason Young 12, Luke Fryoux and Matt Wallace 4 each and Conley White 2.
Columbia improved to 18-9 with the win while Central Private ends their season at 10-13.
