The Glenbrook Apaches won their first game of the season, as they beat Prairie View Academy 3-1 in the Franklin Tournament Thursday.
“It was a total team effort,” Glenbrook head coach Jonathan Hardy said. “It was good to get the first win.”
The Apaches got a great pitching performance from Cody Boyd, who pitched all five innings, giving up just two disputed base hits. He also struck out four batters and walked two.
Glenbrook scored their first run in the top of the third inning, when Chandler Singleton singled in Preston Wise who had walked.
The Apaches added to their lead in the top of the fourth with two more runs. Rudi Spurlock led off the inning with a double, and advanced to third on a balk. Levi Reagan then singled in Spurlock with a single up the middle. One out later, Wise drew a walk and Dave Parks followed with a single to right, which scored Reagan from second.
PVA scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and was threatening to score more as they had two runners on. But Boyd coaxed a strikeout and a groundout from the next two batters to end the game.
Parks and Boyd each had a pair of singles, with Parks adding a RBI. Spurlock doubled and walked, and Singleton had a RBI-single. Reagan had a single and a RBI and Wise walked twice and scored. Colton Spurlock added a single.
