The JA Raiders picked up where they left off last week asDuncan Maxwell was once again the workhorse in a 28-7 victory over the St. George’s Gryphons. Maxwell rolled up 143 yards on 21 carries and a pair of touchdowns. He also grabbed 5 receptions for 58 yards and another touchdown. And to top off his amazing night he had three punt returns for 73 yards. All told, Maxwell touched the ball 29 times for 274 yards and 3 TDs. He now has 504 All Purpose Yards in his first two games as a Raider senior. The Raiders actually fell behind early as their first drive went 71 yards but resulted in a fumble. The Gryphons cashed in three plays later on a defensive miscue as Dean Brown connected with William Brown for an 84 yard strike.
JA finally got on the scoreboard as they put together an 11 play – 72 yard drive that resulted in Maxwell’s first score. The Raiders scored on their first two possessions of the second half to establish a lead they would not squander. After a brilliant punt return early in the 4th quarter by Duncan Maxwell all the way down to the 4 yard line, Maxwell was rewarded with his final TD of the game and his 5th touchdown of the season.
Defensively the Raiders were led by Hayes Walker. The senior linebacker tallied a game-high 11 tackles including 2 solo tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. K.C. Lucious was a force in the backfield again as the junior netted 2 more sacks.
